My dear American Friends:
The month of July started with lots of wind and rain which caused a lot of pain in the body and also, pain in our structures. We probably will be busy next whole month repairing our home and bodies. Last Sunday, I preached on “How to overcome the pain that Jesus predicted at the time of the Cross,” based on Luke 17:2 “You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. Yet, not a hair on your head will perish, by your endurance, you will gain your lives!” In fact, even the disciples were persecuted, killed, and even crucified upside down, but they won victoriously, and we can win victoriously too!
Some of our students, as they decide to become Christian preachers and come to the Christian College, they face considerable opposition from their families, especially if their backgrounds are from different religions such as Buddhism or Confucianism (sometimes they are even expelled from their homes and become homeless). But they can still win if they keep on loving, because Jesus gave us enough love, plenty of love, to last our lives. Paul prescribed it in 2 Cor. 2:4 as “abundant love” which means “endless love.” I have been loving hundreds of these children for almost 60 years and I still have plenty of love left. Besides, like Luke 17:2 says, “WHERE WE ARE, THAT’S THE KINGDOM OF GOD.” So, we have no problem of the supply of His love. Isa. 64:7 says “We have not tried to take hold of His love.” As long as we try and pray, we will have no problem.
I receive many letters from the listeners of our radio program. Sometimes, these letters make me shudder when they write things like “I was about to commit suicide when I turned on radio and heard your sermon…” Other times, they make me laugh. The other day, I received a letter from a listener which said, “I run a gas station. And I want to serve gas free of charge to those who listen to your sermons. So, if you ever come over here, you have free gas.”
A few days ago, I visited my elder brother’s tomb and buried my sister in law who recently passed away. We sang together, “In the sweet by and by. We shall meet in Jesus! What a hope we have in Jesus!” What a beautiful song. It reminded me of another song that goes, “Don’t cry in front of my tomb. I am not sleeping there at all. I became wind and I am flying! I am flying all over the world! I became thousands of winds and I am flying all over the world.”
Do you remember the two newborn baby girls we received some months ago? We were not sure we could rear them, but we received them anyway. When they came, they seemed almost frozen. It seemed to me that only their eyeballs were living and the eyeballs were saying, “Help me! I want to live!” So, we received them. And they are growing beautifully. And they are now one hundred days old! We just celebrated their one hundred days’ birthday. And we are planning to celebrate their two hundred days’ birthday too and three hundred days birthday too. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THEM! Thank you for loving them.
Yours because of Calvary,
YOON KWON CHAE
